Once upon a time, humans tried to gain the power of the dragons. They used magic rituals to infect draon eggs with human souls. Most of the creatures, that hatched from those eggs were more monster, than human: Draconides, Kobolds, Lizardfolk and more.

But some became, what the humans wished for. Humanoid dragons, with the soul of humans. They were called Dragonborn. Those Dragonborn grew in number and integrated into societies all over the continents.

Scales, tails, horns, fangs, claws, wings, and any feature found within dragonkind may emerge randomly for a generation, only to fall back into remission for the next. Despite this, some draconic features remain constant. Whether it be the color of the scales or the shape of the horns, some trace of a dragonborn’s original draconic ancestry always shows through.

Dragonborn Traits

Age: Young dragonborn are largely independent within hours of hatching. They develop quickly, reaching the equivalent development of an adolescent human by the age of 3, and then fully mature into adults by the age of 15. Their maximum life span is about 80 years.
Size: Medium (6-8 feet / 180cm - 240cm)
Speed: 30 feet

Dragon Breath

Drawing upon great reservoirs of draconic power, you can unleash magical destruction upon your foes. When you take the Attack Action on your turn, you can replace one of your attacks with your Dragon Breath.
During Character Creation, choose the type of damage dealt by your breath weapon: Acid, Cold, Fire, Force, Lightning, Necrotic, Poison, Psychic, Radiant, or Thunder.
Additionally, choose between a 30-foot line that is 5 feet wide or a 15-foot cone for the area that your breath weapon affects. Each creature in the breath’s area makes a DEX Save if your breath weapon deals acid, fire, or lightning damage, a CON Save if it deals cold, force, poison, or thunder damage, and a WIS Save if it deals necrotic, psychic, or radiant damage (DC = your 🤺Maneuver Save DC, or your ā˜„ļøSpell Save DC, whichever is higher).
Failed Save: The creature takes 2d6 damage. Successful save: The creature takes half the damage.
The damage increases to 5d6 at 5th level, 8d6 at 9th level, 12d6 at 13th level, and 15d6 at 17th level. You can use your Dragon Breath once between long rests.

Dragonborn Gifts

Dragonborn are diverse and highly varied even within a single draconic progenitor’s bloodline. In addition to the traits found in your dragonborn heritage, select one of the following dragonborn gifts.

Draconic Armor

Some dragonborn grow tougher scales and sharper claws. These dragonborn tend to have short tails, wide faces, and broad shoulders, all of which are usually ridged with hardened scales or tipped with spikes. You have the following traits:

Claws: You grow retractable claws from the tips of your fingers. Extending or retracting the claws requires no action. The claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes that deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + STR.
Resistance: You have resistance to the damage type dealt by your Dragon Breath.
Scales: You have tough interlocked draconic scales. While you aren’t wearing armor, your AC equals 13 + DEX. You can use a shield and still gain this benefit.

Draconic Fins

Some dragonborn seem naturally adapted to aquatic environments with sleek, hydrodynamic, and often reflective scales. These dragonborn tend to have webbed hands and feet, and long serpentine tails. They also tend to grow soft fin-like scales along their legs and forearms. You have the following traits:

Swimmer: You have a swimming speed of 30 feet and you can hold your breath for up to 15 minutes at a time.
Deep Darkvision: You have šŸ‘ļøDarkvision with a range of 60 feet. In addition, your eyes are perfectly adapted for spotting movement at depth, and the radius of your darkvision increases to 120 feet while underwater.
Hard to Hit: You either have a tough shell or your quick movements and reflective scales make you difficult to strike. While you aren’t wearing armor, your AC equals 12 + DEX. You can use a shield and still gain this benefit.

Draconic Magic

Some dragonborn are born with a natural attunement to the magic around them. You gain the following traits:

Arcane Sensitivity: You gain proficiency in Arcana.
Arcane Detection: As an Action you can cast ā˜„ļøDetect Magic without concentration and with a duration of 1 round. You can use this trait once and must finish a long rest before you can use it again.

Draconic Presence

Some dragonborn seem to be born with a natural presence around them, that makes others look at them with awe. These dragonborn tend to be rather large, with naturally thick arms, neck and tail. You have the following traits:

Draconic Roar: When you take the Attack Action on your turn, you can replace one of your attacks with an exhalation in a 15-foot cone. The save DC for this roar is the same as your Dragon Breath. Whenever you use this trait, choose one:

  • Enervating Breath: Each creature in the cone makes a CON Save. Failure: The Creature is ā˜ ļøIncapacitated until the start of your next turn.
  • Repulsion Breath: Each creature in the cone makes a STR Save. Failure: The Creature is pushed 20 feet away from you and is ā˜ ļøProne.

Once you use your Draconic Roar, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.

Forceful Presence: You can use your understanding of creative diplomacy or intimidation to guide a conversation in your favor. When you make a Charisma (Intimidation or Persuasion) check, you can do so with ADV. Once you use this trait, you can’t do so again until you finish a short or long rest.
Telepathy: You can send telepathic messages to any creature you can see within 30 feet of you. You don’t need to share a language with the creature for it to understand these messages, but it must be able to understand at least one language to comprehend them.

Draconic Wings

Some dragonborn are born with draconic wings. They tend to have slender frames and smooth scale patterns, along with a long rudder-like tail to help them fly with their stocky wings. They’re far too heavy and lack the strength to really soar like true dragons, but their wings still allow them to lift off and fly a considerable distance before tiring.

Flight: You have a fly speed of 30 feet and can hover. To use this speed, you can’t be wearing medium or heavy armor.

Draconic Paragon

With enough time and training any dragonborn can unlock their draconic potential. When you reach 10th level, your dragonborn gift dramatically improves. In addition, you gain resistance to the damage type dealt by your Dragon Breath. If you already have resistance to that type of damage, you gain immunity to it instead.

Greater Draconic Magic

You learn the ā˜„ļøElementalism cantrip and the
ā˜„ļøErupting Earth spell. Charisma is your spellcasting ability modifier for those spells. You can cast Erupting Earth once with this trait without expending a spell slot and you must finish a long rest before you can do so again. You can also cast this spell using spell slots you have.

Impenetrable Draconic Armor

Your claws and scales harden to the deadly consistency of a true dragon. Your claws deal slashing damage equal to 1d8 +STR modifier, and your AC increases by 1.

Mighty Draconic Wings

Your fly speed increases to 40 feet and you can fly while wearing medium or heavy armor.

Sleek Draconic Fins

Your swim speed increases to 45 feet, you can breathe underwater, and your darkvision increases to 120 feet (or 240 feet while underwater). Additionally, while underwater you gain an expertise die on saving throws and weapon attack rolls.

Undeniable Draconic Presence

The cone of your Draconic Roar increases to 30 feet. Additionally you gain an expertise die on persuasion and intimidation checks. Also your telepathie’s range increases to 60 feet.
